Botolinum toxin type A, better known as Botox, is utilized to temporarily immobilize a muscle. It helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the treated areas. Botox can be used to treat the forehead, the area around the mouth, crow’s feet and other areas as well. The compound typically starts to act in the fourth day of application and reaches its maximum effect on or around day 14. Side effects may include a slight headache. Application is by injection and takes approximately 15 minutes. Topical anesthesia is used to minimize discomfort.
